Five Websites You Should Check Out Everyday
Note: Updated June 22, 2008 to have 5 websites instead of 3.
Hello! My name is Jeremy Duenas and I live on the internet. My daily activities often include runs to the store (Newegg.com), getting an education (Wikipdeia.com), and of course the occasional run to the dump (myspace.com) to see everyone’s worthless crap. From sun up to sun down I bravely explore the internet. I’ve seen the worst it has to offer (2girls1cup) and the best (digg.com). It is during these explorations that I discover some amazing websites that are updated daily with original content. These are truly my favorite websites. It is for you, a fellow explorer of the web, that I compile this list of Five Websites You Should Check Out Everyday. Please note that this list isn’t in any specific order.
1. Cyanide & Happiness (http://www.explosm.net/comics)
Somewhere between Twisted and Genius lies C&H. It’s not one of those deep comics that make you think (like xkcd occasionally), but the humor is so brilliant that you can’t help instantly regard all involved as geniuses. If, for some odd reason, you get sick of the usual C&H comics, just wait a few weeks. Every once in a while there’s fan week where people send in their own comics. For the more twisted, there’s Depression Week. Where every comic is guaranteed to put you on the edge of normality and emoness.
2. Isotown (http://www.isotown.net/index.php)
It started off as the telling of a tale of a small pixel man named Iso Ian, but it has since turned into a telling of the life of a small city named Isotown. On top of just being really cool, this webcomic is also pretty funny.
Even fans of Dinosaur Comics will find something to laugh at (there’s a dinosaur comics-isotown crossover).
3. Photoshop Disasters (http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/)
I was shown this in my Web Design II class and I instantly fell in love with it. Everyday this guy posts horrible uses of photoshop (some are submitted) and basically trashes whatever idiot thought that disaster was a good idea. My favorites are the ones where someone forgets to get rid of a watermark before they use the image.
4. Craptions (http://www.cracked.com/craptions/)
In a world of nice photographs and even nicer captions there is one website that defies the norm. Craptions is just what it sounds like: a website with captions for crappy pictures (or crappy captions, take your pick). There’s not much more to it than that. So check it out.
5. APOD (http://apod.nasa.gov/)
This might not be as funny as the first four on this list, but APOD is probably my favorite. APOD stands for Astronomy Picture of the Day. And everyday there’s a new astronomy picture posted for people to enjoy. Most recently there’s been a lot of pics from the Mars rover.
